DIY - Dollhouse Shower Curtain

 

So one thing I definitely wanted for my dollhouse bathroom was a shower curtain.  I've looked everywhere and simply wasn't able to find what I was looking for.   Mini stores online and those with mini items locally (Hobby Lobby and Michael's) sell every bathroom accessory imaginable, but no shower curtains.  I really dislike the idea of an open tub, I mean who has something like that in their house?

Somewhere online I found a reference that said a shower cap could be used to make a dollhouse shower curtain.  I swear I pinned the link, but I can't find it now to save my life.  If I come across it again I will update this post to give credit.  Anyway I bought a pack of 3 shower caps from CVS and thought I would give it a try.  These are the thin plastic kind that sort of have the same look and feel of a vinyl shower curtain.

 

 I used my ruler and pen to mark off the largest area of flat plastic that I could manage.  The measurements for the bath tub that I am using are roughly 5"L x 2-1/2"W.  So my curtain ended up being about 7-1/2" wide since my curtain wraps around the foot of the tub.  I forget how tall my plastic ended up being, but when I hung the curtain I made sure it was tall enough to hide a standard size doll.  I used the beige colored cap with polka dots as the shower curtain and the blue cap as the liner to go behind it.

I folded about the top 1/8" of an inch of plastic over and glued it down to make the top trim a bit more sturdy.  Then I used a stick pin and poked a hole through about every 1/2" or so.  Then I threaded silver jump rings through to use as curtain rings.   For a shower rod I used a white metal clothes hanger.  The thin ones are really easy to bend.  Then I glued two beads onto the walls where I wanted the rod to hang.  I strung my curtain on and slide the rod ends into the two beads.

 

This is just a first attempt, but I can already see things that I would change for next time.  I will probably go back and use a sturdier glue for the beads because when I pull the curtain open to one side the rod starts to droop.  Either that or I will have to find a way to support the middle of the shower rod.  The shower caps were easy enough to cut with an Xacto knife, but I'd like to find a better way to seal the edges for a more finished look.  I also like how the shower curtain doesn't hit the floor, but I think it would also look nice if the curtain fell just inside the tub.  I can't make up my mind!

I'll update more as I start to add in accessories and glue the fixtures into place.  Next I want to work on a shower head and maybe a rug for the tub.  Tile would be cold on bare feet, right? ;)
